... love The Age ...
STUFF you, Masterchef. STUFFFFF YOOOOOOOUUUU like a roast saddle of lamb stuffed with lemon-cured anchovies stuffed with pitted Kalamata olives stuffed with roasted saddle of lamb. See what you've done to me Masterchef? I'm watching your show every night of the week and now all I think about is food preparation and food design and food names. I've been walking around the house mumbling "tarte tatin" over and over again since Episode 13. I haven't been so obsessed with a food name since Geoff Jansz whipped out a cock-a-leekie on What's Cooking? And stuff you, Masterchef, for making me flabby: all the weight I lost earlier this year watching The Biggest Loser in the same time slot I've put back on again chewing blocks of butter washed down with a pail of olive oil because that's all anyone cooks with on this show. In Episode 11, George poured olive oil into a chocolate mousse then topped it with pouring cream. Just glimpsing that finished dessert could saturate your eyeballs with carcinogenic trans-fats, and not the good kind. And stuff you, Masterchef, for traumatising my sister: she told me she woke the other night in a fevered sweat, said she had a horrific nightmare where she was the only woman left on earth with the three Masterchef judges, and she was forced to mate outside her species, so she picked Matt Preston. And most of all, STUFF YOU, Masterchef, for making me Mastercheffy. I've transformed into a smug, squat, culinary wanka hanging around my kitchen and critiquing everyone's cooking, dipping my finger into the sauce of my wife's spag bol, saying: "Marginally thick, yah? But it's got robust explosive flavours, yah? Let's pop it in a blender and serve it as a pureed amuse-bouche, yah?" Standing over my kids while they make toast for breakfast, going: "A tad pale, yah? But it's got a nice caramelised crust, yah, so let's plate up and garnish it with these sage leaves I've woven into a double helix, yah?" I'm even Mastercheffing in public eateries, which is what happened this week when I visited Melbourne's premier restaurant precinct: Tullamarine AirportI'd just got off a plane from Sydney and was very hungry because I'd flown Virgin and the only free food they provided was some organic goo a kid had smeared across the Sudoku page of my in-flight magazine. So I hurried to the departure lounge food court and perused my options with Mastercheffy disdain, strutting past Nando's, yelling: "One part of me applauds you for your peri-peri, the other part weeps for your oversalted chips." Peering into the back kitchen of Hungry Jacks, I called out: "No noooooo! Slow down with your deep-fat-frying! Remember, you're only as good as your last Cheesy-Bacon Tendercrisp!" Somehow I wound up at Subway, which obeyed all the rules of Mastercheffery: fresh vegies, fresh meat, prepared by a "Submarine-Sandwich Artist" (or, as I call them, "a Sub-Contractor"). Mine was a young girl and I leaned over the counter, tightened my cravat over my neckfolds and said: "You've got five minutes to make a six-inch roast beef sub with lettuce and tomato on Italian micro-herbed bread, flavoured with your heart and soul or you're going home, yah?" Terrified, she began while I analysed her every step. Beef, tomatoes, lettuce were competently laid out, but she failed dismally when she asked if I wanted "jello-penis" - I think she was trying to say "jalapenos" - and I mocked her callously, going "Yah, give me some jello-penises, heap 'em on, haw haw" until she cried like Poh. Arriving at the condiment climax, I chose a dollop of mayo and said, "Remember, the balance must be right, yah? It's all about tasting as you go, yah?" and I made her stick her finger deep into my sandwich filling and taste the mixture to make sure it wasn't too dry, too soggy. Now we were down to the final seasoning stages and she was sweating like Tom. I said, "You'd better hurry up, yah? Get a move on with your peppering, yah? OK, latex-gloved-hands down! Time's up!" and I made her put down her butter spatula then hand over her dish for judging. Taking a slow, sloppy, sandwich-smacking Prestonesque bite out of it, I smiled blissfully and said: "Lettuce sings lieders on the tongue. Mayo's supple yet yielding. Paper-wrapping is faultlessly presented … you've achieved a fine example of a submarine sandwich, you're still in the competition!" Stuff you, Masterchef, for turning me into this: I want to crush that show like a paella sofrito being crushed in a pestle with garlic and a pinch of fragrant saffron. | | Sunday, March 8th, 2009 | | 9:35 pm |

Mama SMS from boss this afternoon : Check out page 4 of MX - they want to shut down ScrabulousMy reply : What? For starters, I am not a suburban zone three single mum who thinks she is reading quality news in the MX while catching the 5.14pm train to Merinda Park or Kannanook, hence I don't read it. Secondly, MX is quality news, as is Famous and NW. Thirdly, I love Scrabulous so they can't do it. I will park my crappy black Facebook Parking Wars jeep that is currently in Colleen's carpark up in Facebook's sun-don't shine locale if it happens. Rant over.</i? Four To The Floor
Well it's day four of the 10-day detox. The poo is a bit yellow, and yes, you all needed to know that. This morning had a vegetable omelette ... yum! Meanwhile, this year on TV will be exciting, and this show sounds the best : Survivor : Woomera - sew up your lips and throw those babies overboard, it's finally here. Foreigners are plonked behind razor wire in the harsh Australian desert. Contestants perform tasks in an attempt to win basic human rights. Affirmation
I still love this song : I believe in karma - what yo ugive is what you get returned I believe you can't appreciate real love 'till you've been burned I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbyeMeanwhile, I have been feeling a bit crap the last few days ... and testament to that is that I had a quarter of a free champagne last night. FREE. Only a quarter. And then I left! It's awesome weather, and I am loving the beach at the end of the street! WOOHOO! Sadie The Cleaning Lady
WOW, I've cleaned up sooooo much! Maybe it's so I can start the year afresh and neat and tidy. Mind you, the place could get messy later, haha. Hope you all have a fun and safe night whatever you get up to! The usual pubs and clubs have things on (e.g. bands at The Espy, fireworks at Campari Station Pier), but there's also free movies at the Museum Plaza, dance classes and jazz at Birrarung Marr, world music party and DJ's through to 1.30am at Federation Square, kids party and ice skating at Waterfront City, roving entertainers at Southgate, and tomorrow there's Summadayze at the Myer Music Bowl and also Hot BBQ at Birrarung Marr ... enough for everyone to do! Oh, and don't forget the multitude of house parties too. Have a good one kids :) Current Music: "Breath Again" - Delta Goodrem | | 4:21 pm |
A New Day Has Come
It's a stinker today, already 39 degrees! Loving the beach at the end of the street! Ahhh, I have been in my place for all of this year, with many beverages, parties, loaves of garlic bread and games on the Wii. How to describe the ups and downs, not sure, but many MANY many more positives. Hello, Simon! MWAH! It's been a better year than 2006 but I hope that each year just keeps getting better and better! And some of my fave songs of the year are here in this retardo statement : Hook me up in this life. Gimme more of that, but never again make me kiss your mama. Now my fave things for the year : Holiday : Perth, as I went there twice, haha! Once at the end of my Bangkok/Kota Kinabalu/Hong Kong adventure, and then the other time with Simon :) Kudos to the Tassie adventure with Sarah though, that was also fun! Song : About six months through the year, I didn't have a favourite song ... but now I do! Again, runner up prize to The Veronicas for Hook Me Up, and Kiss Your Mama by Vanessa and In This Life by Diva Delta but first place would be Can't Touch It by Ricki Lee! Food : Pome i Jaja for breakfast at Dalmatino in Port Melbourne Movie : Hairspray, definitely HairsprayTV Moment : Well, I didn't see much of it this year. I don't have TV where I am now, but I will have to say I do have a newfound love for Girls Of The Playboy Mansion on Foxtel :) Wine : Anything! To 2007, the year that started on a city balcony watching fireworks and will end on Port Melbourne beach watching fireworks, the year that took me to Perth, Bali, Kota Kinabalu, Launceston, Bangkok, Hobart, Hong Kong, Margaret River ... and of course Bendigo, the year that was crazy but good job-wise, the year that I fell out of love with Diva and in love with Heaven's Door, Scrabulous, and Simon, to all of that I raise my glass of 3-for $10 chardonnay from Decanters On The Bay. and say cheers! Thanks for everything, oh great 2007. It was great. I will treasure the year forever. Thnks fr th mmrs. Current Music: None | | Monday, December 24th, 2007 | | 3:06 pm |
